Royal Opera House Muscat è lieta di presentarvi la stagione 2024/2025. Sarete tutti benvenuti ad una stagione che presenta spettacoli di fama mondiale, unica nel suo genere e  pensata per la partecipazione di  un pubblico internazionale ed eterogeneo.  

La stagione è costruita su una grande varietà di proposte, da oltre 50 spettacoli nella programmazione principale che presenta 5 opere, 9 concerti di musica araba, 7 concerti di musica classica, 4 spettacoli per famiglie, 3 concerti di musica dal mondo, un balletto e uno straordinario concerto di jazz.

Sul palcoscenico si alterneranno artisti arabi e occidentali per dar voce ad una stagione ricca di momenti imperdibili che si svolgerà da ottobre 2024 a fine maggio 2025.

LE OPERE DI PUCCINI, VERDI E DONIZETTI

Un ballo in maschera di Giuseppe Verdi è il titolo inaugurale della stagione. Il National Centre for Performing Arts di Pechino (NCPA) arriverà per la prima volta in Oman con uno dei grandi capolavori verdiani. L’allestimento presenterà un cast stellare, da Elena Stikhina, Piotr Bezcala, Liao Chaoyong e Agnieszka Rehlis, per la regia di Hugo de Ana, e con Giampaolo Bisanti alla direzione dell’Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari e il Coro NCPA (3 e 5 ottobre).

A seguire, La fille du regiment di Gaetano Donizetti, una delle opere più raffinate del compositore bergamasco, che la rendono tra le più divertenti e apprezzate dal grande pubblico. Con la regia di Jean-Louis Grinda, ROHM presenterà un’altra eccezionale proposta artistica con Jessica Pratt, Antonio Siragusa, Veronica Simeoni e Omar Montanari in una produzione dell’Opera di Monte Carlo, con l’Orchestra Arcangelo Corelli e il Coro dell’Opera di Monte Carlo diretti da Antonello Allemandi (5 e 7 dicembre).

La stagione proseguirà con Simon Boccanegra di Giuseppe Verdi, presentato dal Teatro Mariinsky, sotto la prestigiosa direzione di Valery Gergiev (23 e 25 gennaio).

L’opera per famiglie di Michele Dall’Ongaro – l’epopea senza tempo di Robin Hood – sarà rappresentata dalla Fondazione Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari diretta da Pietro Maniti su libretto di Vincenzo De Vivo per catturare e affascinare il pubblico più giovane (18 e 19 aprile).

Il ritorno de La Traviata, per la direzione di Marta Domingo, concluderà il ciclo delle opere in programma.  (1° e 3 maggio). Con l’Orchestra e il Coro del Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova diretti dal leggendario Plácido Domingo, questa straordinaria produzione ha già debuttato nel 2019 e vedrà la partecipazione di  Yusif Eyvazov e Juliana Grigoryan al suo debutto nel ruolo di Violetta. L’allestimento sarà arricchito dalla Compañia Antonio Gades, che aggiungerà una preziosa dimensione di coreografia di danza flamenca al melodramma.

LE STAR DELLA MUSICA ARABA DI TUTTI I TEMPI

Il repertorio di musica araba, tra star e leggende, si presenterà in concerti che riscalderanno l’anima e riconnetteranno con la storia e la tradizione. Il concerto annuale Omani Women’s Day celebrerà un’incredibile formazione di musiciste, tra cui l’Al Nour wal Amal Orchestra, l’unica orchestra di musica classica tutta al femminile composta da musiciste non vedenti e poi Nour Ayadi e il ROSO Ladies’ Ensemble insieme a Majida El Roumi (17 ottobre).

Come tanti diamanti,  la stagione sarà costellata dai concerti delle superstar arabe Majida El Roumi (18 e 19 ottobre), Ahlam (14 novembre) e Ragheb Alama che chiuderà la stagione (23 e 24 maggio).
Per la prima volta a ROHM, Ahlam si esibirà in un concerto all’aperto presso il suggestivo spazio antistante il teatro (Maidan), garantendo un accesso senza precedenti a un pubblico più ampio.

Un festival speciale andrà ad omaggiare Mohamed Abdul Wahab, tra i più grandi artisti nella storia della musica araba (15 e 20 febbraio), con una serie di eventi e mostre, uniti a due concerti unici per celebrare la sua vita e la sua carriera (dal 15 gennaio al 27 febbraio).

Come ogni anno, Ramadhan Series avrà luogo nel rispetto del mese sacro, con tre diversi gruppi omaniti che si esibiranno ogni sera insieme a musicisti in visita dalla regione, che presteranno la voce e speciali  momenti di riflessione (13, 20 e 24 marzo). Un concerto unico nel suo genere aprirà la musica tradizionale yemenita ad arrangiamenti sinfonici per orchestra in Traditional Symphonies – A Journey through Yemeni Music, diretto da Mohamed AlGhoom (24 e 25 aprile).

I CONCERTI CLASSICI

Il primo concerto della stagione sarà A Musical Night from China, con la partecipazione eccezionale dei Solisti e del Coro dell’NCPA di Pechino e del celebre baritono Liao Changyong, accompagnati dall’Orchestra del Teatro Lirico di Cagliari e diretti dal Direttore Artistico Musicale dell’NCPA e Direttore Musicale dell’Orchestra NCPA Lü Jia (4 ottobre).

A Romantic Evening of Music con la Saint Petersburg State Muisc Theatre, della F.I. Chaliapin Saint Petersburg State Music Theatre diretta da Fabio Mastrangelo sarà il concerto della fine dell’anno  (31 dicembre) con la straordinaria partecipazione di  Erwin Schrott che si esibirà, nella prima parte, in un programma di arie famose. La seconda parte presenterà la musica e la magia dei valzer di Johann Strauss.

ROHM proporrà ancora Opera Masterpieces, un meraviglioso programma eseguito da cantanti, coro e orchestra del Mariinksy Theatre (24 gennaio).

La stagione riproporrà anche l’annuale concerto d’organo, Pipe Organ Concert, con il magnifico organo a canne di ROHM, con la partecipazione dell’organista Claudio Astronio e della Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra diretta da Gianluca Marciano (13 febbraio).

Il Gala Symphony Concert finale porterà sul palco della Royal Opera House of Musical Arts giovani cantanti selezionati nell’ambito di concorsi indetti da accademie internazionali, con il grande Plácido Domingo alla direzione della Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (2 maggio).

ROHM è altresì orgogliosa di collaborare con La Salle Gaveau per presentare The Piano Duel, un entusiasmante play-off di due recenti vincitori nella categoria pianoforte del famoso Monte Carlo Music Masters Competition, noto anche come Prix de Ranier III, un prestigioso titolo conferito sotto l’Alto Patronato di Sua Altezza Serenissima il Principe Sovrano di Monaco. Aristo Sham (Gran Premio 2023) e Nikolai Kuznetsov (Gran Premio 2021) si sfideranno nuovamente sul palco, esibendosi dal repertorio per pianoforte e orchestra sotto la direzione di Alessandro Cadario insieme all’Orchestra Arcangelo Corelli. Il pubblico sarà infine invitato a votare il miglior pianista della serata (6 dicembre).

La magia di Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, un classico per bambini, delizierà il pubblico di tutte le età; la finzione prenderà straordinaria vita su uno schermo gigante con la colonna sonora suonata dal vivo dall’Armenian State Symphony Orchestra diretta da Justin Freer (10 e 11 aprile).

STRAORDINARI SPETTACOLI DI BALLETTO E DANZA

Il balletto di Fikret Amirov, One Thousand and One Nights, prenderà vita sotto la direzione di una delle compagnie più prestigiose e riconosciute al mondo, la Primorsky Stage del Mariinsky Ballet di Vladivostok. La musica ispirata ai tour di Fikret Amirov in Iraq, Iran, Turchia, Siria, Egitto, Marocco e India, mostra gli sforzi del compositore nel catturare la cultura musicale araba e il senso del ritmo e di trasporla all’interno del balletto. Dalla sua prima notte nel 1979, questo balletto è stato un vero trionfo, descritto come espressione autentica della poesia degli antichi racconti in suoni, movimenti e immagini (6 e 7 febbraio).

In una prima mondiale commissionata dalla Royal Opera House Muscat, la Compañia Flamenca Antonio Andrade porterà in scena la sua nuovissima produzione Memories of Alhambra con una fusione di musica araba e flamenco (8 e 9 maggio). Questo nuovo spettacolo promette di riunire l’eredità araba del flamenco dalla sua terra d’origine in Andalusia, dove ha sviluppato influenze iberiche, gitane, arabe e berbere all’interno del genere classico della danza.

LO SFOLGORANTE JAZZ

ROHM darà il benvenuto al cantante e pianista jazz Anthony Strong, elegante, carismatico e musicalmente brillante, per la prima volta in Oman per un concerto eccezionale con i brani del suo ultimo album. Il pubblico sentirà il fascino e l’ispirazione dell'”English Gentleman” che si esibirà con la scintillante Latvian Radio Big Band in un repertorio vivace che va da leggende come Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra e James Taylor a splendidi brani originali (28 e 29 novembre).

ICONE DELLA CULTURA E DELLA WORLD MUSIC

Con particolare orgoglio per la visione di ROHM nell’ambito dell’arricchimento culturale e dell’ampiezza globale della programmazione, verranno proposti due artisti al vertice del loro campo in un genere nazionale. Nishat Khan, il miglior musicista di musica classica indiana senza eguali al mondo, porterà il significato di musicalità a un livello completamente nuovo con il sitar in un concerto in due parti con la European Philarmonia Orchestra diretta da Walter Proost (30 e 31 ottobre).

Cristina Branco riempirà l’auditorium con la passione soul del fado portoghese, toccando note ed emozioni che coinvolgeranno profondamente il pubblico (5 novembre).

FANTASTICI SPETTACOLI PER TUTTI

ROHM è costantemente impegnata a presentare un cartellone completo e vario adatto ad ogni genere di pubblico. A questa stagione di livello mondiale si unirà un’accattivante scelta di spettacoli per famiglie che definiranno questo, come un anno di fiabe e di racconti. Beauty and the Beast on Ice verrà presentata in modo spettacolare mentre ROHM accoglierà i pattinatori sul ghiaccio vincitori di premi olimpici che racconteranno questa storia come mai prima d’ora. (2, 3 e 4 gennaio).

Altri spettacoli di questa stagione includeranno la prima mondiale dello spettacolo acrobatico “Sword of Wisdom”, un’esibizione impressionante dello straordinario ensemble U-Theatre con percussioni, arti marziali, numeri acrobatici e teatro dinamico di percussioni (19 e 20 dicembre).

Tutto il nostro pubblico potrà inoltre partecipare al tradizionale spettacolo annuale all’aperto Military Music: Oman and the World, che vedrà la partecipazione di ospiti provenienti da Austria e Giordania (7, 8 e 9 novembre).

Un gradito ritorno nel cartellone è il Folk Music Festival, che quest’anno inviterà i meravigliosi Paesi di Bulgaria, Corea del Sud e Paraguay a unirsi ai musicisti folk dell’Oman in una magnifica presentazione del patrimonio e delle tradizioni culturali (16 e 17 gennaio).

PROGRAMMA EDUCATION

Il calendario dell’attività Education 2024/25 includerà due giornate Open House pensate per bambini e famiglie per scoprire la Royal Opera House Muscat in modo unico. Il primo evento Open House si concentrerà sul Mondo delle Fiabe (21 dicembre) con un’intera giornata di attività ispirate alle storie dell’infanzia, pensate per famiglie e bambini. Il secondo Open House, Join Us! presenterà le diverse professioni del teatro con lo staff impegnato a tenere un workshop su trucco, costumi, palcoscenico, fotografia, story telling e design (1° febbraio).

Intorno a spettacoli specifici, ad aprile e maggio, saranno presentati anche Progetti Speciali, tra cui Harry Potter: A World of Magic, La Traviata Project, Welcome to Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood! e Paganini for Everyone un approfondimento su Niccolò Paganini, nella storia del violino e della musica.

Saranno inoltre offerti agli studenti di musica residenti in Oman diversi corsi di perfezionamento (masterclass) con artisti di spicco, tra cui Thomas Hampson, Fabio Mastrangelo, Joyce El Khoury, Simon Zhu, Gile Bae e Claudio Astronio.

Quest’anno ROHM avvierà anche una nuova attività educativa Let’s Read per completare una stagione ricca di fiabe, con gruppi di lettura mensili per bambini, giovani adulti e famiglie. In un’entusiasmante collaborazione con Elisabetta Dami, daremo il benvenuto all’autrice e alla sua creazione adorata a livello internazionale Geronimo Stilton per una presentazione teatrale di racconti (6 novembre).

Inoltre, ROHM offrirà alle scuole locali spettacoli mattutini esclusivi dell’opera per famiglie Robin Hood (15, 16 e 17 aprile), offrendo sia alle scuole arabe locali che a quelle internazionali un’opportunità unica di assistere a questa produzione accattivante.

Infine, il Summer Camp di quest’anno – Super Hero– comprenderà due fantastiche settimane ispirate al mondo dei supereroi, durante le quali i bambini verranno introdotti alla musica, al teatro, alla danza e alla tecnologia.

PROGRAMMA DI DIVULGAZIONE E COINVOLGIMENTO (OUTREACH)

Il programma di divulgazione e coinvolgimento includerà attività consolidate che si svolgeranno durante tutta la stagione, tra cui Lunch Music nell’Opera Galleria; Coffee and Dates, incontri esclusivi con gli artisti; Opera Talks con il musicologo Gaston Fournier, nella biblioteca musicale; Absolute Music Series e Movie Nights.

Nella Absolute Music Series di questa stagione, ROHM accoglierà il soprano Joyce El Khouri accompagnata dal pianista Serouj Kradjian e da un ensemble libanese per un concerto unico intitolato Scheherazade, un viaggio della canzone in musica fra occidente e oriente (21 ottobre).

Quest’anno, ROHM lancia Emerging Talents, un format di tre concerti che lancerà i giovani artisti affiancati dai grandi di sempre. Questa nuova serie di concerti presenterà artisti riconosciuti a livello internazionale tra cui “Ambassador of Song”, Thomas Hampson, accompagnato dalla Muscat Philharmonic Orchestra e dall’Omani Opera Choir Group, diretti da Lubnan Balbaaki (9 febbraio), i pianisti Aristo Sham e Nikolai Kuznetsov (6 dicembre) dei Monte Carlo Music Masters e il violinista Simon Zhu e il pianista Gile Bae (24 febbraio) del Paganini Prize.

Subito dopo il lancio dell’iniziativa Open Doors nel 2024, che ha esportato le produzioni programmate al di fuori delle mura di ROHM, il teatro dell’opera continuerà a offrire spettacoli speciali per istituzioni, ospedali e case di cura a Muscat, con l’introduzione, quest’anno, del linguaggio dei segni in tutte le attività educative al fine di creare maggiore inclusività.

La stagione 2024-2025 è ricca di semi che porteranno a una stagione davvero magica: grandi nomi internazionali, opere e concerti per nutrire mente e anima, artisti arabi amati e tanta musica per  ispirare tutto il nostro pubblico.

The Royal Opera House Muscat is delighted to present Season 2024/2025. Welcome to a season of highlights and exciting moments, with world-class performances for everyone to enjoy. The season is built from a significant variety, featuring more than 50 performances in the main programming, offering no less than 5 operas, 9 Arab music concerts, 7 classical concerts, 4 family shows, 3 world music concerts, 1 extraordinary ballet, and a dazzling jazz concert. Leading Arab and Western artists will grace the stage in a season packed with amazing productions running from October 2024 to the end of May 2025. Umberto Fanni is our Director General and Artistic Director.

OPERAS OF PUCCINI, VERDI, AND DONIZETTI

Un Ballo in Maschera begins the season in Giuseppe Verdi’s much-loved style. Joining us for the first time in Oman is The National Centre for Performing Arts Beijing (NCPA), with this Verdi masterpiece. This opera promises a stellar lineup with Elena Stikhina, Piotr Bezcala, Liao Chaoyong, and Agnieszka Rehlis, staged by the world-renowned Hugo de Ana with Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and NCPA Chorus conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti (3^rd and 5^th October).

One of the most exquisite stories in opera, La Fille du Regiment by Gaetano Donizetti, follows this masterpiece, packed with infectious melodies and fizzing wit, making it a delightful treat to watch. Staged by Jean-Louis Grinda in an Opera Monte Carlo production, we welcome another exceptional lineup of artists including Jessica Pratt, Antonio Siragusa, Veronica Simeoni, and Omar Montanari with the Arcangelo Corelli Orchestra and Opera Monte Carlo Chorus conducted by Antonello Allemandi (5^th and 7^th December).

We continue the season with Simon Boccanegra, by Giuseppe Verdi, performed by the Mariinsky Orchestra and Chorus with the globally renowned Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, Valery Gergiev as conductor (23^rd and 25^th January).

Younger audiences will be captivated by Michele Dall’Ongaro’s family opera, the timeless epic, Robin Hood, which will be performed by the Petruzzelli Theatre Foundation of Bari conducted by Pietro Maniti based on a libretto by Vincenzo De Vivo (18^th and 19^th April).

Our final opera will be the return of the successful ROHM’s production La Traviata staged by Marta Domingo (May 1^st and 3rd). Performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova conducted by the legendary Plácido Domingo, this remarkable production first premiered in 2019 and will feature leading opera stars including Yusif Eyvazov and Juliana Grigoryan in her debut as Violetta. This stunning opera is enriched by the Compañia Antonio Gades, adding a rich dimension in flamenco dance choreography to the drama.

ARAB MUSIC STARS FROM ACROSS THE AGES

Programming of Arab Music throughout the season gathers stars and legends in concerts that warm the soul and reconnect with history and tradition. The annual Omani Women’s Day concert celebrates an incredible lineup of female musicians, including Al Nour wal Amal Orchestra, the only blind all-female orchestra playing classical music, Nour Ayadi, and ROSO Ladies’ Ensemble alongside Majida El Roumi (17^th October).

A scattering of diamonds lights up the season in solo concerts with Arab superstars, Majida El Roumi (18^th and 19^th October), Ahlam (14^th November), with Ragheb Alama closing our season (23^rd and 24^th May). Enjoy an incredible first for ROHM, as Ahlam is invited to perform her concert in the open air of the maidan, ensuring unprecedented access for a wider audience.

We revisit legends in a special festival celebrating Mohamed Abdul Wahab’s place as one of the greatest musicians in Arab music history (15^th and 20^th February). Enjoy a series of events and exhibitions, combined with two unique concerts to pay homage to his life and work (15^th January to 27^th February). Our annual respectful Ramadhan series will take place in the holy month, with three different Omani groups performing each evening alongside visiting musicians from the region, lending their voices to the special moments of reflection (13^th, 20^th, and 24^th March). A unique concert opens traditional Yemeni music to symphonic orchestra arrangements in Traditional Symphonies – A Journey through Yemeni Music conducted by Mohamed AlGhoom (24^th and 25^th April).

CLASSICAL CONCERTS

Our first orchestral concert of the season, A Musical Night from China, features the exceptional participation of Soloists and the Choir of NCPA Beijing, including the celebrated baritone Liao Changyong accompanied by Orchestra Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and conducted by NCPA’s Artistic Director of Music and Music Director of the NCPA Orchestra Lü Jia (4^th October). With a unique programme from the traditional Chinese repertoire, this concert will feature a rare performance of the Pipa concerto from Zhao Jiping played by Zhang Hongyan.

To add to this exceptional lineup, the best baritone of our age, Erwin Schrott, performs A Romantic Evening of Music with the St Petersburg Northern Symphonia Orchestra of the F.I. Chaliapin St Petersburg State Music Theatre conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo (31^st December). This special New Year’s Eve concert promises a classical operatic repertoire with Erwin Schrott performing in the first half from a programme of famous arias with a second half presenting the much-loved music of Johann Strauss, magical waltzes, and all.

Complementing Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, the opera house brings a beautiful programme performed by singers, choir, and orchestra of Mariinksy Opera in Opera Masterpieces (24^th January). This season will also bring back the annual Pipe Organ Concert, featuring the magnificent ROHM pipe organ front and centre, with the participation of the organist Claudio Astronio, performed by the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gianluca Marciano (13^th February).

The final classical Gala Symphony Concertbrings extraordinary award-winning artists onto the stage of the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts with the great Plácido Domingo conducting the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra (2^nd May).

Launching this season, ROHM is proud to collaborate with La Salle Gaveau to present The Piano Duel, an exciting play-off by two recent winners of the piano category of the world-famous Monte Carlo Music Masters Competition, also known as the Prix de Ranier III, a prestigious title conferred under the High Patronage of S.A.S. Audiences of all generations can delight in magical children’s classics such as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, as the fiction is brought to extraordinary life on a giant screen with the soundtrack played by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Justin Freer (10^th and 11^th April).

STUNNING BALLET AND DANCE PERFORMANCES

Fikret Amirov’s ballet, One Thousand and One Nights comes alive under the direction of one of the most prestigious and recognized companies in the world, the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Ballet in Vladivostok. The music inspired by Fikret Amirov’s tours of Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Morocco, and India, shows the efforts of the composer in capturing Arabic culture of music and sense of rhythm within the ballet. From its first night in 1979, this ballet was a triumph, described as truly expressing the poetry of the ancient tales in sounds, movements, and pictures (6^th and 7^th February).

In a world premiere commissioned by the Royal Opera House Muscat, the Compañia Flamenca Antonio Andrade brings its brand-new production Memories of Alhambra to the stage with this fusion of Arabic Music and Flamenco (8^th and 9^th May). This new show promises to bring together Arab heritage of Flamenco from its original home in Andalucia where it developed Iberian, Gipsy, Arabian, and Berber influence within the classical genre of dance.

DAZZLING JAZZ

The opera house is proud to welcome the suited, charismatic, and musically brilliant jazz singer and pianist Anthony Strong for the first time to Oman for an exceptional concert featuring the songs from his latest album. Feel the soul-stirring charm and inspiration of the ‘English Gentleman’ performing with the brilliant Latvian Radio Big Band for a joyful repertoire featuring legends such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and James Taylor as well as stunning originals (28^th and 29^th November).

ICONS OF WORLD MUSIC AND CULTURE

With special pride for the ROHM vision for cultural enrichment and global breadth in programming, the opera house has added two artists at the top of their field in a national genre. Nishat Khan takes the meaning of musicality to a whole new level with the sitar in a two-part concert with the European Philarmonia Orchestra conducted by Walter Proost, the best musician of Indian classical music bar none in the world today (30^th and 31^st October). Cristina Branco will fill the auditorium with the soulful passion of Portuguese fado, hitting notes and emotions that will stir audiences very deeply (5^th November).

SPECTACULAR SHOWS FOR EVERYONE

As always, the opera house strives to present a full and varied programme for every audience member to enjoy. Joining this world-class season is a captivating choice of family-friendly shows defining this as a year of stories and fairy tales. Beauty and the Beast on Ice will be presented spectacularly as ROHM welcomes Olympic award-winning ice skaters telling this tale as never before, with contortionists, German wheel acts, fire breathers, aerial acrobatics, and more (2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th January).

Other spectacular shows joining this season include the world premiere of ‘Sword of Wisdom’ Acrobatic Show an awe-inspiring performance of the extraordinary U-Theatre ensemble with drumming, martial arts, acrobatic excellence, and dynamic percussion theatre (19^th and 20^th December).

Locals and tourists will also be able to rejoice in the popular annual Military Music: Oman and the World outdoor show, with guest participation from Austria and Jordan this season (7^th, 8^th, and 9^th November).

A welcome return to the programming is the Folk Music Festival, this year inviting the wonderful countries of Bulgaria, South Korea, and Paraguay to join Omani folk musiciansin a glorious presentation of heritage and cultural traditions (16^th and 17^th January).

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

The 2024/25 calendar of educational activities will include two Open House days designed for local enthusiasts to discover the Royal Opera House Muscat uniquely. The first Open House event will focus on the World of Fairy Tales (21^st December) with a full day of activities inspired by fabled stories of childhood, designed for families and children. The second Open House, Join Us! will showcase the different professions of the theatre with staff hosting workshops on make-up, costumes, props, sound, photography, storytelling, and design (1^st February).

Special Projects (in April and May) around specific shows will also be presented, including Harry Potter: A World of Magic, La Traviata Project, Welcome to Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood! and Paganini for Everyone focused on Nicolo’ Paganini’s role on the history of the violin and music itself.

Several masterclasses with leading artists including Ambassador of Song Thomas Hampson, renowned conductor Fabio Mastrangelo, soprano Joyce El Khoury, world-class musicians Simon Zhu and Gile Bae, and organist Claudio Astronio will also be offered to music students based in Oman.

This year, ROHM is also launching a new educational activity Let’s Read to complement a season full of fairy tales, featuring monthly reading groups for children, young adults, and families. In an exciting collaboration with Elisabetta Dami, we welcome the author and her internationally adored creation Geronimo Stilton for a theatrical presentation of stories (6^th November).

ROHM will offer local schools exclusive morning performances of the Robin Hood family opera (15^th,16^th, and 17^th April), giving both local Arabic and international schools a unique opportunity to enjoy this captivating production.

Finally, this year’s Summer Camp will feature two amazing weeks inspired by the world of Superheroes during which children will be introduced to music, theatre, dance art, and technology.

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

The outreach programme will include established activities that run throughout the season including Lunch Music in the Opera Galleria; Coffee and Dates, exclusive talks with the artists; Opera Talks with our musicologist in the music library; the Absolute Music Series, and Movie Nights.

In this season’s Absolute Music Series, ROHM welcomes the soprano Joyce El Khouri accompanied by pianist Serouj Kradjian and a Lebanese ensemble for a unique concert entitled Scheherazade(21^st  October).

This year, ROHM is launching Emerging Talents, a three-concert format with young winners of international competitions performing in Muscat. This new concert series will present internationally recognised artists including ‘Ambassador of Song’, Thomas Hampson, accompanied by the Muscat Philharmonic Orchestra and Omani Opera Choir Group, conducted by Lubnan Balbaaki (9^th February), pianists Aristo Sham and Nikolai Kuznetsov (6^th December) from the Monte Carlo Music Masters and violinist Simon Zhu and pianist Gile Bae (24^th February) from the Paganini Prize.

Following the launch of its Open Doors initiative in 2024, exporting scheduled productions outside the walls of ROHM, the opera house will continue to offer special performances for specific institutions, hospitals, and nursing homes in Muscat, with this year, the introduction of sign language across all educational activities to create more inclusivity. 

Season 2024 – 2025 is richly sewn with the seeds of a truly magical season: international names of great note, popular shows, operas to feed the mind and soul, beloved Arab artists, and enough choice to inspire the love of music across all generations.
